Instruction for Hip arthroscopy and mini-open labral repair patients:

1. Patient will be partial weight bearing for six weeks.

2. Wound check by district nurse after 10-14 days.

3. No driving for 4-6 weeks, they should test their ability while the car is stationary.

4. Work: If you are doing desk job 2-4 weeks, other jobs 4-6 weeks off.

5. Physiotherapy is for 2-3 sessions (each is 6 weeks), should be arranged.

6. They can go back on any medication after the operation immediately.

7. Pain should settle gradually over 6 week´s period.

8. Back to moderate sport activity after 12 weeks.

9. Back to heavy sport activity after 3 months.

10. No restriction on bending, sexual activity or sleep pattern.

Broadly the aims of the rehabilitation process are to restore:

— Movement
— Strength
— Core stability
— Proprioception (balance reactions)
— Functionality

And thereby to aid the return to full activity (including sport based on individual needs

For ease this protocol is divided into 4 stages:

Stage I - The protected weight bearing stage.

Stage II - Intermediate exercises

Stage III - Advanced exercises

Stage IV - Sports specific training
